Immobility in Motion: Saint Triphon’s Reliquaries and their Performativity
The relic chapel in Kotor, where body of Saint Tryphon is kept, beside hundreds of relics of various saints, got its baroque appearance between 1704 and 1708. At that particular moment, the biggest part of the Bay of Kotor was governed by the Venetian Republic for more than 200 years, and therefore the chief sculptor of this reliquary, Francesco Penso Cabianca, came from Venice. Chapel treasures today dozens of silver reliquaries shaped like human arms, legs and busts, and many other made of wood and glass.
